AquaCal rates the unit to operate down to roughly 45°F ambient before the compressor lockout engages. I ran it in 50°F air and still got useful heating, but the COP dropped to about 3.2 versus 5.6 at 80°F. Below 45°F you still need a gas heater. In colder climates this is a shoulder-season machine, not a winter workhorse.
